Stop Motion

WEEK 1

In the first week of the project we learnt what stop motion was and the multifaceted ways it can be used to bring objects (literally) to life.

Through the week I learnt that stop motion was about more than making items look pretty, unlike traditional digital art, the focus in stop motion is to make the inmate,  animate. There are several textures surfaces, fingerprint and marks left on objects that tell a story of its life: like the the rusting of steel or the touch of a  finger prints on glass. Effects that are hard to replicate in other mediums. During this week I also began compiling an animatic for my identity project stupid people.

WEEK 2

In week two I continued on brainstorming and experimenting with mediums. I put together a idea of the stupidity of mankind.  whilst many classmates thought of meaning and heartfelt aspects fo their identity, I became starkly aware of my own stupidity and the embarrassing things I have not only done but also thought about, in honour of the the fact that life should be taken much less seriously. I experimented with paper cut-outs but i was dissatisfied with the colour selection and therefore decided to abandon the title page.

WEEK 3

During the third week, I kept the ball rolling with experimentations. I decided to create the models using plasticine as I found it simpler rather than animating with cut outs, it also allowed more variety and a 3 dimensional  feel to the Animation. I created 3 characters during this week, The first being my self dressed as a monk as I continuously  find myself giving out "wisdom and advice" to my younger fellow classmates. The second is a horse character dressed as a professional and finally the third a very fancy and over cosmetic lady. The storyline after this point simply shaped it's self  as it needed to be stupid and absurd.

WEEK 4

The forth week we animated! using dragon frame and by placing the camera facing down, i animated my characters making slight gestural and mouth movement, I also experimented with zoom in to add tension and humour to the dynamic between these absurd characters. I changed the storyline slightly from the original leaving the original message and a hint at some r-rated activity for shock factor. I wanted to leave the audience more confused than they had originally started. My inspiration for this background was the show "the office" so I kept it simply using a wooden board as background.
